Do you ever get scared of an Opossum? Why? They are the one of the most interesting animals in North America. They are one of the oldest mammals around having lived as far back as the dinosaurs. They are also the only marsupial in North America, which means they are like Kangaroos in that they carry their young around in a pouch on there belly. Possums are not very fast nor are they very agile, therefore their best form of defense is to play dead, and no they do not hang upside down by their tails, unless they are in a Disney movie. Lastly Possums eat anything, they are real life vacuum cleaners for mother nature. So the next time you see a Possum on the road, swerve around it, because they are neat little creatures. There is a link at the bottom for a more informative article on opossums.
Now when do Opossums become a nuisance? When they steal your trash. When they tear apart the insulation in your crawlspace, or even worse when they die up under your crawlspace. They are also very deadly towards chickens and other types of poultry. And like everything else if a Opossum gets inside your house it is probably a wise decision to get it out. They are very easy to catch as they are not the smartest animal, if you are fast enough it is possible to catch them by hand (do not attempt this unless you are a professional.) The simplest way thought is to just set a trap for the possum and come get him the next day. If you do hove Opossums getting in your house, we not only catch the Opossum but we also repair the entry points that they get in at. So remember don’t be to scared of an opossum.
